Art Happenings

I have two openings this Friday night, plus the LoDo Light Installation dedication. Please join us!

Semi-Annual Juried Exhibition
March 06 - March 21

Opening: Friday, March 6 | 6:00-10:00 pm
Gallery: Boxcar Gallery
554 Santa Fe Drive
Denver, CO 80204

I have a few pieces in this show, featuring guest juror Mark Sink, an international photographer. As a photographer, curator and teacher, Mark Sink has been making a living from fine art photography since 1978. His personal work is in numerous museum collections as well as galleries. Through his career he has documented such artists as Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat and Rene Ricard. Mark has a history of supporting the local art scene by teaching workshops at The Denver Dark Room and Working with Artists. He has also been the director and curator for exhibitions with the Museum of Contemporary Art as well as founding Gallery Sink.

Clay & Ink Exhibit
March 06 - April 08

Opening: Friday, March 6 | 5:30-8:00 pm
Gallery: Art Students League of Denver
200 Grant Street
Denver 80203

I have one piece in this show. Clay, used in ceramics, sculpture or relief is distinct from ink, typically used in drawing, resist, mixed-media, calligraphy or printmaking. Art Students League members, students and faculty explore the endless possibilities of these two media, both individually and combined.

CURRENT 3 (cubed)

Opening: Friday, March 6 | Dedication at 6pm. Lighting at 6:20 pm.
Gallery: Outdoors at Manny's bridge.
The historic, steel railroad, now pedestrian bridge,
1400 Wynkoop Street (over Cherry Creek in LoDo)
Denver, CO 80202

What is LoDo Lights? Public art of our time in the form of light media. The 2009 launch year serves as an illuminated tribute to Denver's 150th Anniversary.

The project is patterned after the successful annual "Lucia d'Artista", in Turin, Italy. There, contemporary art light sculptures are spread through the historic city to help brighten the winter nights. Virginia Folkestad, a Denver installation artist, was chosen to create Denver's inaugural light project. The interactive light installation contains elements of historic patterns of travel projected on the pedestrian bridge deck, plus washes of colored light changing as people move across Cherry Creek. The work honors the original user, the DRGW Railroad, and the many who have used the bridge.

*There is pay parking inside the building at 1400 Wewatta/1401 Wynkoop.
